In 2014 another book was published entitled "Billy the Kid: An Autobiography" which contains the original testimony of Brushy Bill Roberts as well as new original research, photographic comparisons, and startling new revelations. Some of the most compelling evidence is in the form of photographic comparisons of a 21 year old Billy the Kid from the famous tintype and a photo of a 27 year old Brushy Bill Roberts. These two photos when laid over one another literally match layer for layer and pixel for pixel. The author shows multiple points of comparison which leaves little doubt the two are the same man. Further revelations include evidence that Billy the Kid did in fact have a home in San Patricio, New Mexico and was not some homeless drifter as historians claim. Other contemporary records are shown that verify more aspects of Brushy Bill Roberts' life that he shared with Morrison about the time after he was supposedly killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. These include records of his service with the Rough Riders, including additional photo comparisons, and evidence that he was in fact associated with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and some of Buffalo Bill's closest associates. All in all this book adds definitively and positively to the work of Sonnichsen and Morrison.
Perhaps Wayne Land of the Brushy Bill Roberts Forum sums it up best when he says "After more than 20 years of research and 22 books read, I am surprised and delighted at the new research revealed in Daniel's book. He approaches much of the information regarding Brushy's interviews with a new insight and has uncovered many new facts and documented records that support Brushy Bill Roberts' claim of being Billy The Kid. Billy The Kid was not killed by Pat Garrett in 1881 but rather lived to be almost 91 and was able to finally reveal his identity during the last few years of his life. If you've ever wondered about this story and want to make a decision one way or the other, read Daniel's book. A marvelous effort to shed truth on the story once and for all."
